Schecter Hellraisers are great for metal. The 25 1/2″ scale length is good for detuning and it comes with EMG’s. EMG’s are great under lots of overdrive because they retain clarity and don’t get muddy. Some people say they have no soul, but with a good amp and good EQ settings, EMG’s are just fine.
Fender’s aren’t metal guitars. Schecter has quite a few models you may like, like the Blackjack ATX (Has Seymour Duncan Blackout active humbuckers instead of EMGs). The Blackouts have a bit more tonal response, but they don’t hit as hard as the EMGs do. ESP also caters to the metal guitar player. They have a lot to choose from, most of which have EMGs in them. Washburn has an X-50 Pro FE that’s armed with EMG’s and the Pro Q that has a Seymour SH-11 Custom Custom (think more vintage tone with higher output) and a SH-1n ‘59 reissue in the neck. Both can pull off metal well and that guitar is awesome for it’s tonal range. I have one and I love it.
Also, check out Dean, Kramer (vintage ones if you can), and Jackson.

I think you’re right on track. I would go with the Ibanez because they usually have really low action and are easy to play

Hellraisers are great for metal, but you can get some great shred guitars for pretty cheap, Ibanez and BC Rich dominate, the one that I own is a mockingbird. It’s a very reasonable price, if you have the right amp and get some slinkies this puppy will sing like a bird.
Go to a Guitar Center nearby, tell ‘em specifically what you want and they’ll get you just what you need.
