I found an Emperador guitar at a garage sale and bought it for $25. I'm a (soon-to-be) freshman music education major, and I'll have to learn how to play the guitar, so I figured it would be a good thing to buy. The guitar came with a semi-decent case. The guitar itself is quite pretty (some of the detailing on the front is worn from use, I think). It's missing a string and it didn't come with a strap.

So did I waste my money, or was it a good buy? Is it a good guitar for a new player?

You did good buying the Emperador for that price. These guitars were copies of Gibson. Gibson sued several manufacturers from Japan in the 70’s to stop manufacturing such copies. Not only that these Emperadors made good copies, but they sound excellent too, rivalring the best guitars in the $2,000 range. If your guitar was made in Japan, then you found yourself a jewel.

I found one in my attic. It was out of tune but as soon as I tuned it up, it was pretty good I guess. It sounds just as good as my J.B. player
