help decide on my bass ?

Alright I am looking for a new bass or upgrading my own. I have about $250 for what ever I do. I own a Squire P affinity P bass, which I am not to happy with because of my skill level at the moment. Or should I buy a OLP mm2 which I have found for about the price I have to spend. I would also like to point out that I am an advanced student who enjoys low punchy sound and does quiet allot of pop and slap, and looking to get something which is a little bit more my speed. Thanks for your help guys.
Whoops sorry the question is should I upgrade my Squire or buy and OLP MM2. Thanks.
