every time i slap my bass as an instructional video tells me to, the only sound is the string hitting the fret so it just sounds like metal! is there a good vid, tutorial or tips on how to make it sound right?

I think that is the way it supposed to sound.

    Hi Mur

Slapping techniques will produce that tin fretted sound which is why , when you plucked the string, it has to be down with an outward motion to compensate the lack of tone it produces.

go on youTube and punch in Victor Wooten. He is one of the best and has very very good teaching technique on youTube.
