Need help with the piano?

October 6th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I learned to play the piano when I was like 12… I took it for like 3 years but don’t seem to remember much of it. I know what notes are what… in other words I can read music. I write music a lot and use my acoustic guitar but I’d like to switch to using the piano as well sometimes… any ideas or how to re teach myself without having to take a class?

There’s no substitute for 1-2-1 lessons. If you are on a tight budget find a young student aged 15-18 who will do you a cheap deal on lessons!

I taught myself to play the piano. Eventually, you will want to have someone to talk to who is an experienced player, so that you can ask them questions about things like correct fingering, use of the pedal, and other things, that can really can’t learn from just reading a book. But you can definately get started on your own. Get yourself a college piano textbook. That is how I learned. Just go to your local community college, or order one online.
Also, youtube has a lot of instructional videos on playing piano.
