My thinking was that Guitar Hero WT instruments were going to be compatible on release with RB2 but not the reverse, there’s been so much speculation though….

Obviously not! Guitar hero will wanna make as much money as they can from the periferals. They dont wanna share profits with another company. Its like asking if the xbox 360 plays ps3 games.

For the Wii versions, they will not be compatible:

For the PS3 and 360 version, they will be compatible on the same console. So PS3’s Rock Band 2’s instruments will be compatible on PS3’s Guitar Hero: World Tour and vice versa. That’s been confirmed by EGM or Gamepro and MS.
This is from Wiki:
The Rock Band 2 peripherals and Guitar Hero Wold Tour peripherals will be cross-compatible with their respective games for the same console. Microsoft has also stated that instruments on the Xbox 360 will be compatible between the two games, as well as Rock Revolution.

Just so you know Phyllis- Rock Band and Guitar Hero are owned by the same company!
