Will the guitar controller from Guitar Hero 3 on Wii be compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour?

I want to buy Guitar Hero World Tour for my husband for Xmas, but being that I am a clueless non-gamer I’m not sure what the situation will be with the guitar. Am I able to buy the Solus edition and use the controller from the previous game or is that not compatible with the new game and therefore have to buy it with the new guitar controller? Any advice much appreciated :) x
